This post is for all of my friends out there that are currently applying to med school and those of you who will be applying soon.

You’re reading this because you want to be a doctor. I’ll tell you right now that the road to medicine is a lengthy and difficult one filled with year upon year of new challenges. I say this because before you embark on this journey, you must understand what lies ahead of you. Once you grasp the sacrifice that you are about to make, you must then ensure that this journey is for you by thoroughly pondering the reasons why you want to become a doctor. If indeed you have a calling; a true deep desire to help and heal those in need then verily, no journey is too difficult. Instead, you will find it tremendously enjoyable and with each challenge that you pass, you will find yourself feeling an invigorating satisfaction.

Today I’ll be starting my switch to a polyphasic sleeping cycle.  Polyphasic sleeping (aka segmented sleep) is when you break up the usual “block” of sleep into smaller naps that are evenly spaced throughout the day.  Also, the naps are very short (15-30 minutes) and done every 4 hours so in the end,  you’re sleeping only a total of 2 to 3 hours.  The most obvious benefit of this is gaining an extra 6 hours of awake time a day.
